Please give us your views

Over the last few months we have been assessing the usage of our former Stanley Buses services. We have already extended our ‘Buzzfare’ and ‘Get Around’ tickets to these routes, but we would now like to improve them and better integrate them with other services around Stanley.

Please tell us what you think of our plans. In return, you will be entered into a free prize draw, where you can win free travel for one month on all Go North East services.

All responses received by Friday 22 August 2008 will be considered for our service plans in this area.

Our ‘West Durham Swift’ services are very popular and on 27 July 2008 we made some improvements for customers in Medomsley, Burnopfield and Sunniside.

West Durham Swift

We have had several requests for a direct ‘Swift’ link to Newcastle and Gateshead from South Moor, Quaking Houses and Burnhope. We could provide this by extending service X30 from Stanley to Lanchester via these places. This would run hourly on Monday to Saturday daytimes, replacing service MC1 between Stanley and Lanchester.

We have experienced difficulties operating new low-floor buses to Quaking Houses Turning Circle because of the speed bumps. If we extend the X30 from Stanley to Lanchester we would need to keep buses on the main road, calling instead at the Smiths Arms. The Turning Circle would still be served by the 711, generally running every 30 minutes during the daytime.

Tantobie Front Street and White-le-Head are currently served once an hour by the MC1, providing a direct link to the MetroCentre. However, they have no buses to Newcastle. We could improve this by diverting ‘Diamond’ service 44 between Flint Hill and Pickering Nook, giving two buses per hour to the MetroCentre and Newcastle on Monday to Saturday daytimes (one per hour in the evening and on Sundays).

From 27 July 2008 we improved connections between our services at Consett Bus Station. This has been very successful and we are now looking to do the same at Stanley Bus Station. As well as making minor changes to our timetables, we would increase our staffing levels, provide drivers with extra training and produce a special guide to make it easier for you to change buses.

Get You Home

We are also looking to extend our ‘Get You Home Guarantee’ to buses serving Stanley Bus Station. This allows our drivers to arrange a taxi if your bus is going to miss one of the connections covered by the guarantee.

We currently build ‘recovery time’ into our schedules at Stanley Bus Station to try to make sure that our buses depart from there on time. Some customers appreciate this, but others have complained that it causes delays to through journeys.
