Go North East are working with Gateshead Council and Nexus to improve access into Wardley for bus services originating from the East (South Tyneside and Sunderland).

East Gateshead

The East Gateshead Quality Bus Partnership is committed to involving bus users and residents in decisions about these matters through representation on the Partnership’s Stakeholder Board. The board members would like to hear your views.

All responses received by Monday 18 August 2008 will be considered for future service planning in this area.

Proposed “buses only” right turn onto Sunderland Road to improve bus access and service levels into Wardley.

The plan involves creating a right turn to allow buses to enter Wardley directly from the Felling Bypass, rather than the convoluted entry via Lingey Lane bridge.

Work on this scheme is proposed for early 2009 and Go North East and Gateshead Council welcome the views of local residents on this innovative scheme.

In the meantime, it is proposed to amend service 57 from 26 October 2008, to serve Wardley and operate from Lingey Lane via Whitemere Gardens, Manor Gardens and Kirkwood Gardens towards Gateshead.

This would mean that residents of Wardley would have better access to services direct to Newcastle which would operate every 30 minutes during the daytime, Mondays to Saturdays.

What sort of a difference will this proposal make to your use of the bus services?

Much more convenient

Additional comments:

It is proposed that from 26 October service 69 will be diverted to serve Felling Square giving Wardley direct access to the shops and other facilities at Felling Square. This would also mean there will be a direct bus service from Wardley to the Queen Elizabeth Hospital. The service would operate every 30 minutes during Monday to Saturday daytimes. At the same time, service 59 would be withdrawn because the service 69 and 57 would cover the needs previously met by this service.

How much of an improvement do you consider this will make for you in your use of bus services?
Big improvement
Slight improvement
No improvement
Worse service
